In June 2009 the Canadian Organic standards became mandatory when the Organic Products Regulation was implemented.

This means that for any products that contain the seal “Organic”, a set of mandatory rules must be followed.

In a nutshell, Organic produce are those grown without the use of:

synthetic pesticides

• synthetic fertilizers

• sewage sludge

• genetically modified organisms

• ionizing radiation

• growth hormones for animals that produce meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products

Now...isn’t that the way it should be in the first place.

With the enacted standards, farmers of Organic products subject themselves to a screening process that allows for full traceability. Organic certification helps ensure integrity of organic products from field to fork.
